Working with the subconscious
Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
A relaxed, focused state that allows us to work directly with the subconscious patterns beneath habits, reactions, and self-limiting beliefs.
The approach
What it is
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation — similar to being absorbed in a book or a long drive. In this state, the conscious mind quietens enough for us to work with the subconscious: the place where automatic reactions, old beliefs, and protective patterns actually live.
Clinical hypnotherapy uses this state deliberately and collaboratively. You remain aware and in control throughout; nothing happens without your consent, and you cannot be made to do anything against your will.
The experience
What a session involves
- We begin by talking — what you'd like to change, and what has been in the way.
- You are then guided into a comfortable, relaxed state using your breath, attention, and imagery.
- From there we work with the subconscious material that emerges: reframing old beliefs, meeting protective parts, and rehearsing new responses.
- We close by grounding the work and, where helpful, recording suggestions or practices to take with you.
Where it helps
What it may support
- Changing habits and automatic reactions
- Softening self-criticism and limiting beliefs
- Preparing for transitions, conversations, or performances
- Deepening relaxation and improving sleep routines
- Reconnecting with motivation, confidence, and self-trust
Rather than analyzing a pattern from the outside, hypnosis lets us meet it where it was formed — in the subconscious — which is why shifts can feel less like effort and more like relief.
Good to know
Safety & care
- Hypnotherapy here is a coaching and personal-development modality, not psychotherapy or medical treatment, and it is not a substitute for mental health care.
- It is not suitable as a primary approach for acute psychiatric conditions; if you are under the care of a psychiatrist or therapist, we can discuss how this work fits alongside it.
- You are always free to pause or end a session at any point.
Questions
Frequently asked
- Will I lose control or be asleep?
- No. You remain aware, able to speak, and in control the entire time. Most people describe it as deeply relaxed focus, not sleep.
- What if I can't be hypnotized?
- Nearly everyone can reach a useful level of focused relaxation — it's a skill of attention, not a test you can fail. We go at your pace.
- Is this stage hypnosis?
- No. Clinical hypnotherapy is a quiet, collaborative process. There are no performances and nothing happens without your agreement.
